My sixth shirt.woot derby and I won 3rd place! Which means it got printed and I get some much needed prize money.
I was really proud of this. I somehow managed to come up with a design that appeals to Christians, atheists and LGBT people all at once. I was actually the least concerned about the religious content being provocative. After many years of studying and debating religion, I think I have a good sense of what is offensive and what buttons can be pushed. I have also learned to put my socio-political opinions aside, strong as they may be, in order to design things that can appeal to people from various backgrounds; which I think is key in making commercially viable artwork.
I was much more nervous about how the color scheme would play out. Using all six colors of the rainbow is usually a design mistake, but I managed to make it work. Woot shirts are limited to six colors, but here I incorporated the blue background of the shirt into the drawing.
Please don't tell me the animal being taken off the ark by the sea monster should be a unicorn or a dinosaur. Everyone and their brother has told me that. I considered it early on, I decided against it, and there's no going back to change it now.
